One of the perks of now being an entrepreneur is finally being able to dedicate time to causes and charities that I care about. For years, I wasn't able to take a day off to volunteer for something or invest in a cause. But now, I can so I am...
For the next 2 days, I will be hanging out with 5,000 kids and teens at We Day Montreal. We Day is a series of international events that bring together 2,3 million kids in Canada, the US and UK who have earned their ticket to the inspirational event.
Kids work hard all year long to earn their participation by committing to doing one local and one global action during the year. As a reward, they get access to the day-long event which includes many celebrities: artists, musicians, speakers, and some other children who have accomplished outstanding things. With $45 million raised since 2007 and 14,6 million hours of volunteer time, I'd say it's working: kids are doing the work and changing the world one act at a time!
We Day is part of Free The Children, an international charity that acts locally (through education and empowerment) and globally (through sustainable developement initiatives) to make the world a better place. Started by Craig Kielburger, who wanted to make a difference at the tender age of 12, Free The Children now has impact around the world, helping with water, sanitation, alternative income generation, health and education programs.
Go check them out. They deserve your time and attention.
